LPO Overture Day

Classical Vauxhall has partnered with the London Philharmonic Orchestra since 2020 to deliver accessible music activities in Lambeth. This year, the LPO is running an LPO Junior Artists: Overture day on Sunday 17 March at St Gabriel’s College in Lambeth, bringing together musicians aged 11 – 14 with LPO players and members of the LPO’s Rising Talent programmes for a thrilling day of side-by-side music-making!

LPO Junior Artists: Overture days are free, fun orchestral skills days where participants play alongside LPO musicians, get tips on musicianship and find out what happens behind the scenes of a professional orchestra. They will rehearse as an ensemble and in sectionals, and participate in a Q&A with LPO musicians. The day will end with a performance by the Overture ensemble.

Applications are now open for young musicians aged 11 – 14 who are Grade 4+ on an orchestral instrument (not including piano, harp or saxophone). Applications from young musicians who come from backgrounds that are underrepresented in UK professional orchestras and from young musicians from Lambeth will be prioritised.

OPERA MAGIC

For the first time, Classical Vauxhall is joining forces with London Festival Opera to host two Opera Magic workshops for primary school-aged children in Vauxhall, Kennington, and Oval.

Opera Magic is a joyous introduction to the world of opera that can inspire, entertain and educate children from all backgrounds in just one hour, presented by a critically acclaimed opera company.

London Festival Opera brings together artists from the major opera companies including the Royal Opera, ENO, and Glyndebourne with exceptional young singers, and has toured throughout the UK and Europe, including performing recently at La Fenice opera house in Venice.

LFO believes it is crucial to encourage the next generation of music lovers at the grassroots level, particularly in areas where performances are not readily available. Opera Magic is a programme of drama, humour, passion and audience interaction that ensures a positive and memorable first time at the opera.

If you work at a local primary school and would like further information about these fully funded workshops, please stay tuned for more information.
